Working conditions
At Zeeland Refinery, we believe that a motivated, healthy, and valued workforce is essential to our success. That’s why we place great importance on creating a working environment where people feel satisfied and supported—starting with fair and flexible working conditions.
Shift workers at Zeeland Refinery have an average workweek of 33.9 hours, while employees in standard day shifts (Monday to Friday) work an average of 38 hours per week. Everyone is entitled to at least 25 vacation days annually, plus 14 additional ADV (reduced working hours) days, one of which is collectively scheduled.
To give employees more control over their benefits, we offer a flexible budget each year through a multiple-choice scheme. This allows employees to choose how they want to use their budget—options include joining a bicycle scheme, covering additional care leave, offsetting travel expenses, or receiving a one-time gross salary supplement.

Training and development
Working at Zeeland Refinery is more than just taking on a job—it’s the start of a long-term career. We are committed to continuous development and offer clear training paths and growth opportunities across the organization.
Our operators are trained through an internal licence-based system, where each licence reflects in-depth knowledge of a specific area within the refinery. This ensures that our teams operate with a high level of expertise and confidence in their roles.
Beyond job-specific training, employees are also encouraged to pursue courses and development programs that may not be directly related to their current position. We see ongoing learning as essential—not just for the refinery’s success, but for individual growth and fulfilment.
